Lectio Ecclesiae

About

Lectio Ecclesiae Press

Lectio Ecclesiae Press is a small publisher run by a Catholic family who love both the Eastern and Western traditions of the Church.

It began when we set out to learn Latin and Greek ourselves. We found plenty of Latin readers and very few Greek ones, and nearly all of them were built around secular authors and stories. We wanted to learn the Church's languages by reading the Church's own books, such as the stories of Scripture, the lives of the saints and the writings of the Fathers. So we started making those books for ourselves. Before long they had grown into a small library, and we decided to share it.

Our books bring back the readers that schools and seminaries once used to teach Latin and Greek, along with the works of the Fathers themselves. Every text is in the public domain, and each one is newly edited from its original printing. We publish three series:

Latin Readers. Classic Latin readers with every long vowel marked and the harder words explained in the margin in Latin.

Greek Readers. Works of the early Church in Greek, complete, with the harder words explained in the margin in Greek.

Church Fathers in Latin and English. Complete works of the Fathers in Latin, with a classic English translation beside the Latin.

Lectio ecclesiae means “the reading of the Church.” We hope these books help you read the Church's languages and grow in the faith along the way.
